Chainlink Powers First SuperchainERC20 Token on Soneium with Astar and Optimism | BSCN (fka BSC News)
Chainlink, Astar Network, and Optimism have launched the first live deployment of a SuperchainERC20-compatible cross-chain token. Powered by Chainlink’s Cross-Chain Interoperability Protocol (CCIP), this milestone sees Astar’s native token, ASTR, live on Soneium Mainnet using the new Cross-Chain Token (CCT) standard.
Astar Network’s ASTR token has now been upgraded into a fully interoperable asset. It supports both the ERC-7802 SuperchainERC20 framework and Chainlink’s CCT standard via CCIP. This dual integration makes ASTR the first token to achieve full compatibility across both token frameworks.
That means ASTR can seamlessly move between OP Stack chains in the Superchain and reach other EVM and non-EVM blockchains such as Solana, without relying on centralized bridges. The system uses Chainlink’s Decentralized Oracle Networks (DONs) to validate and execute token transfers securely between blockchains.
ASTR tokens can now move across Superchain networks in just two clicks
Chainlink CCIP: The Backbone of Blockchain Interoperability
At the core of this upgrade lies Chainlink’s CCIP, which has become the leading protocol for secure cross-chain messaging and token transfers. CCIP enables communication between different blockchains, handling transaction validation, relay, and execution across chains using its decentralized oracle infrastructure.
This isn’t Chainlink’s first step into real-world use cases either. Just days before this launch, CCIP was used in a cross-border pilot between the Hong Kong Monetary Authority and the Reserve Bank of Australia
The program enabled instant settlement of tokenized fund purchases between the Hong Kong dollar (e-HKD) and Australia’s A$DC stablecoin. As a result, settlement times were slashed from days to seconds-even on weekends, showing the power of programmable money.
Astar’s Bigger Vision
For Astar Network, this launch is a cornerstone in its broader mission of becoming a fully multi-chain asset.
The integration allows Astar developers to create dApps with built-in cross-chain features. This is especially important in a fragmented blockchain space where tokens and dApps often exist in isolated silos. Now, with SuperchainERC20 and CCT, Astar enables a connected experience for developers and users alike.
The new CrosschainMint and CrosschainBurn functions allow authorized bridges to manage token supply securely across networks. Role-based access control ensures that only Chainlink contracts can trigger mint or burn operations, protecting token integrity.
Optimism’s Superchain Vision Takes Shape
With the adoption of ERC-7802 and Chainlink’s CCT standard, the Superchain now supports secure and composable token transfers between its Layer 2 networks. That reduces the burden on developers and users alike, offering a scalable alternative to traditional bridge-based models.
Zain Bacchus from OP Labs emphasized this shift:
The current integration also paves the way for future tokens within the Superchain ecosystem to adopt the CCT standard. It provides a blueprint for interoperability—not just within Ethereum’s ecosystem, but across the broader blockchain landscape.
It also encourages new liquidity flows. Tokens like ASTR can now interact with DeFi platforms across multiple ecosystems, making capital more efficient and accessible
