Donald Trump Responds to Musk's Public Apology After Ugly Argument
Donald Trump reacted to Elon Musk's public apology after a week of online sparring. Musk stated that his comments about the president had "gone too far." Trump told the New York Post that he was "truly surprised" but had "no ill will," although he added that he was "a little disappointing." U.S. President Donald Trump responded on Wednesday to Elon Musk's public apology following a heated online exchange between the two former allies. Musk admitted that his recent criticism of Trump had gone "too far," hoping that the tension between him and the president could ease after a week of intense personal attacks. Trump commented on the apology in a brief phone interview with the New York Post on Wednesday morning. Despite the harsh words, Trump stated that he "holds no grudges." Trump said, "I think he did very well." He also stated that he does not "blame" Musk for the explosion stemming from Musk's criticisms of the Big Beautiful Bill. However, he still emphasized that he is "a little disappointing," according to The Post. Elon Musk, a former aide to Trump, launched a series of posts about Trump last week. The discord began when Musk criticized Trump's Big Beautiful Bill. Trump responded by downplaying Musk's role in his political success. In response, Musk declared that Trump's victory in the 2024 election is largely due to his support. He continued to accuse the president of playing a role in preventing the release of documents related to convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, based on Trump's past relationship with Epstein. MUSK APOLOGIZES AFTER CRITICIZING TRUMP However, Musk later deleted some of these posts and apologized, saying, "I regret some of my posts about President @realDonaldTrump last week. They went too far." According to the New York Times, the apology came after Musk had a private conversation with Vice President JD Vance and White House Chief of Staff Susie Wiles on Friday. The discussions aimed to find a way to ease the tension between the two men, who had previously clashed on social media. Although some reports claim that Musk personally contacted Trump on Monday, Trump acknowledged the apology but did not clarify whether he is willing to restore their previous relationship. Earlier in the verbal sparring, Trump called Musk "crazy" and threatened to reconsider federal contracts with Musk's companies. He also accused Musk of having "Trump Derangement Syndrome" and was angry about losing his position in the government and the removal of electric vehicle tax incentives from the "One Big Beautiful Bill." When asked about the possibility of mending their relationship, Trump told Miranda Devine's podcast "Pod Force One" that, "I guess I could, but we have to get the country back in order." He added, "My only function right now is to get this country back to a higher level than ever before. And I think we can do that."
