Reddit, one of the largest social media platforms in the world, may open a new chapter in user verification processes.

The company has been revealed to be considering using the eye-scanning-based World ID system developed by Tools for Humanity, co-founded by OpenAI CEO Sam Altman. This is also a system associated with the World (WLD) altcoin.

According to two sources close to the matter, the ongoing discussions between Reddit and Tools for Humanity could pave the way for users on the platform to remain anonymous while also proving their humanity. The discussions have gained momentum due to the increase in fake content generated by artificial intelligence in online environments and the emergence of age verification laws for social media in various countries.

Reddit CEO Steve Huffman stated in a recent announcement that the company would have to determine whether users are human and of a certain age due to threats from artificial intelligence and age verification regulations. Huffman mentioned that they would collaborate with third-party providers to avoid collecting user data: "We will strive to protect both the humanity and anonymity of Reddit."

World ID is created using unique biometric data obtained from a user's eye iris. This data is fragmented and stored on secret servers located in different parts of the world. The system allows users to prove that they are unique individuals without revealing their identity. The identity verification process is completed with a World ID that is securely stored on the user's phone. Users are rewarded with WLD tokens.
