According to CEO Simon Gerovich, who confirmed the purchase through X ('s former name Twitter), the company spent $13.5 million at an average price of $83,123 per Bitcoin for the latest purchase.
Despite the recent drop in the price of Bitcoin, Metaplanet's total assets are currently worth approximately $249.4 million, compared to the $253.7 million acquisition cost.
Since April 2024, Metaplanet has been consistently accumulating Bitcoin according to its Bitcoin acquisition strategy. In December 2024, the company strengthened its commitment by defining Bitcoin treasury operations as a core business segment.
Just last week, Metaplanet increased its total Bitcoin purchases for 2025 to approximately 1,300 BTC by purchasing 497 BTC for $43.9 million. The company has set an ambitious goal of holding 10,000 BTC by the end of this year and 21,000 BTC by 2026.
Stock Increases in the Middle of Bitcoin Accumulation
According to Yahoo Finance, following the announcement, Metaplanet's stock price rose by 8.1% to 3,610 yen in midday trading in Japan.
As institutional Bitcoin adoption continues to increase, Metaplanet's aggressive accumulation strategy positions it as one of the most Bitcoin-weighted public companies in Japan.
