More than one-fifth of South Korea's public officials hold crypto assets worth 14.4 billion won
Gate.io News bot message, the latest investigation data from the ethics committee of the South Korean government officials shows that among the 2,047 officials required to disclose their assets, 411 declared holding encryption assets, with a total value of 14.4 billion won (approximately 9.8 million USD).
Data shows that these officials each hold an average of 35.1 million won (about 24,000 USD) in encryption assets. Seoul City Councilor Kim Hye-young declared the highest encryption assets, totaling 1.76 billion won (about 1.2 million USD). The declared types of encryption assets include Bitcoin, Ethereum, XRP, Dogecoin, and Luna Classic (LUNC).
The asset disclosure this time is based on the request made by South Korean Prime Minister Han Deok-soo in 2023, as well as the legislation passed on May 25, 2023, which stipulates that public officials must include encryption assets in their property declarations.
