Director of the Hong Kong InvestHK: There are discussions with regulated stablecoin operators to set up in Hong Kong.

According to Gate News bot, the Hong Kong Investment Promotion Agency Director Liu Kaixuan stated that a stablecoin operator is in discussions with its financial team about the opportunity to establish a presence in Hong Kong. It is anticipated that shortly after the "Stablecoin Ordinance" takes effect next month, relevant enterprises will be established.

Liu Kaixuan pointed out that the fintech industry values the development of stablecoins and believes that stablecoins can bring opportunities to the trade and investment markets, helping to diversify global currencies; Hong Kong's policies related to stablecoins are relatively advanced, which can attract companies to Hong Kong as a new development base.

She stated that in the past two and a half years, 630 mainland companies have settled in Hong Kong, accounting for about 48%; due to national policy supporting companies going overseas, Hong Kong will become a springboard, and it is believed that in the future, mainland companies will still account for a certain proportion among the companies settling in Hong Kong.

Regarding the U.S. tariff issue, she stated that Hong Kong still maintains its status as a free port, and ASEAN and European chambers of commerce indicated that past exports have been too reliant on the U.S., and there is a need to diversify risks. In the long term, new markets should be explored, with Asia and the Greater China region remaining the fastest-growing markets. Hong Kong, as a two-way platform, can seize these opportunities.

She stated that the corporate tax rate in Hong Kong is 16.5%, which is higher than the global minimum tax rate of 15%, but it has little impact on the local market; and after the implementation of the company relocation mechanism, two insurance companies have already relocated to Hong Kong, indicating that there are still opportunities in Hong Kong.
