Galaxy Research: BTC faces challenges as a data availability layer, and L2 expansion solutions may need to be weighed
Odaily Planet Daily News: Galaxy Research recently reported that BTC faces severe challenges as a data availability (DA) layer. The main points are as follows: Block space scarcity: the BTC block size limit is 4MB, and the data released by ZK-Rollup every 6-8 blocks may occupy 10% of the block space. High cost: calculated at a rate of 10-50 sat/vByte, the monthly data release cost of Rollup is about 460,000 to 2.3 million US dollars. Economic feasibility: Rollup needs to process a large number of transactions every month and collect enough transaction fees to be profitable. For example, when the monthly volume is 20 million transactions, the transaction fee needs to be between 0.05-0.23 US dollars per transaction to balance the income and expenditure. Increased competition: the introduction of Rollup will increase block space competition, which may push up the transaction fees of all users. Alternative solutions: If the cost is too high, Rollup may turn to use alternative DA layers such as Celestia or build L3 solutions. Security trade-offs: Although using BTC as a DA layer is costly, it can achieve unparalleled security and decentralization. The report believes that only a few Rollup projects can survive on the BTC network, and recommends that projects explore strategies such as collaborating with miners and developing cost estimation engines to improve profitability.
