On January 21st, Jinshi Data reported that on January 20th local time, the outgoing U.S. President Biden announced a "preventive" pardon for multiple relatives. The pardon includes Biden's brother James Biden and his wife, sister Valerie Biden Owens and her husband, and brother Francis Biden, a total of 5 people. Biden said in the pardon that the aforementioned individuals are completely and unconditionally pardoned for any non-violent crimes they may have committed or been involved in between January 1, 2014, and the date of the pardon. Biden stated that these pardons should not be misinterpreted as indicating any wrongdoing on the part of these individuals, and their acceptance of the pardon should not be misconstrued as an admission of guilt. It is reported that Biden's "preventive" pardon is aimed at preventing these family members from being targeted after Biden leaves office. Previously, Trump publicly stated that he would appoint a special prosecutor to "hold accountable" Biden and his family.
