Update on June 24, 2025: The supercomputer project Nexus has launched Testnet 3 in the United States, Vietnam, Nigeria, Russia, India, Indonesia, the United Kingdom, Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, and mainland China. Unlike previous Nexus testnets that only ran for a few days, Testnet 3 will operate for several weeks until the launch of the Nexus Mainnet later in the third quarter. Users will have ample time to contribute idle computing power and earn rewards. In Testnet 3, users can earn NEX Testnet 3 points through Nexus OS or CLI proof, which can then be exchanged for NEX Testnet 3 tokens. Currently, 1,000 NEX Testnet points can be exchanged for one NEX Testnet token.

On February 14th, Western Valentine's Day, the supercomputer project Nexus announced the upcoming launch of Nexus Layer1. Nexus founder and CEO Daniel Marin shared the vision of a verifiable internet for Nexus in a video. He stated, "Only by creating a new type of supercomputer can the new internet become a reality."

According to Daniel Marin, "Nexus Layer1 is a planetary-scale supercomputer that can concentrate all the computing power in the world into a single blockchain network, thereby compressing the entire internet into a proof. Achieving Proof Singularity is also Nexus's ultimate goal. The biggest innovation of Nexus Layer1 is that as each new node joins, the network becomes stronger."

Nexus has launched Nexus Testnet 2 on February 19. As always, just like Nexus Testnet 1, Nexus Testnet 2 will also run for only 3 days.

Regarding the Nexus team, funding background, and operational methods, the author has provided a detailed introduction in "Quick Reading Supercomputer Nexus: How It Works? How to Participate?" published in December 2024. If readers wish to directly understand the participation guide for Testnet 2, please jump to the third section.

What is ### Nexus?

Nexus envisions building an internet based on verifiable computing, connecting computing devices scattered around the world (such as large GPU farms, computers, mobile phones, and other devices) to form a supercomputer. By utilizing the Nexus zkVM, Nexus connects the supply of computing with the demand for proof, allowing anyone to connect their devices to the network, not only to participate in computing but also to earn corresponding rewards.

Daniel Marin, the founder and CEO of Nexus, graduated from Stanford University with a degree in computer science and is a two-time winner of the International Physics Olympiad. Chief scientist Jens Groth is the inventor of paired-based zkSNARKs and has served as research director at DFINITY and professor of cryptography at University College London. In addition, there are 8 advisors listed on the Nexus website, including Yevgeniy Dodis, chair of the Department of Cryptography at New York University, Chelsea Komlo, chief scientist at Zcash, Zhenfei Zhang, cryptographer at Ethereum, Giuseppe Persiano, cryptographer at Google, Daniel Vogel, co-founder and CEO of Bitso, Gengmo Qi, partner at Dragonfly, and others.

In terms of financing, Nexus Labs completed a $25 million Series A funding round in June 2024, led by Lightspeed Venture Partners and Pantera Capital, with participation from Dragonfly Capital, Faction Ventures, and Blockchain Builders Fund.

How does Nexus operate? What is Nexus Layer 1?

Nexus Layer 1 consists of four layers of infrastructure. The first layer is Nexus OS, which includes the Nexus virtual machine and Nexus App. The second layer is the execution layer, which puts global computing power into the network. The third layer is the consensus layer, which synchronizes global computers through universal proof. Finally, the last layer is the storage layer.

As mentioned earlier, as a large-scale parallel proof network, Nexus Network tightly connects computing devices around the world to form a supercomputer. The Nexus zkVM serves as the core of this network and can prove any computation.

According to the official description, Nexus zkVM is a modular, scalable, open-source, highly parallel, prover-optimized, contributor-friendly zkVM, written in Rust, focusing on performance and security. The core components of Nexus zkVM include: Nexus Prover, Nexus Virtual Machine (NVM), and Nexus Proof Compression Mechanism (a proof compression sequence for recursive SNARKs). Since Nexus zkVM is designed to support a large amount of parallel computation, it significantly enhances the proof generation speed.

Specifically, the Nexus Network operates by arranging a set of prover clients, each of which can access the Nexus zkVM. Each connected prover is assigned a work unit, which is the program to be proved. The prover clients continuously report their progress to Nexus throughout the proving process and continue to wait for new task assignments after completing the proof.

How to participate in the Nexus Testnet 2?

Nexus Testnet 2 has the following participation methods:

1. Contribute computing resources directly through the web interface. The specific steps are:

  1. Visit app.nexus.xyz;

  2. Connect;

  3. Enter your email to create a Nexus account (email confirmation required) and wallet. NEX points are updated and sent to user wallets approximately every hour.

  4. If you have registered before, you can view past points in the Earning section.

2. Provide computing resources to the network through Nexus Network CLI. Connecting to the network using the CLI can achieve better performance and allows you to submit your own programs for others to verify. For specific operational procedures, refer to the official guide.

  1. Use applications powered by Nexus, or deploy Nexus applications.

  2. Interacting with the Nexus ecosystem;

  3. Interact with Nexus GitHub and X accounts (may need to submit bug reports, etc. on GitHub repository).
