Scroll zkEVM First Experience: From Testnet Setup to on-chain Tic-Tac-Toe
Scroll zkEVM Beginner's Guide
This article will introduce beginners to how to interact with L2 Dapps, taking Scroll zkEVM as an example. The skills here are also applicable to other layer two networks. We will explain using an on-chain tic-tac-toe game running on the Scroll L2 network as an example.
Preparation Work
First, you need to install Metamask or a similar wallet. If you have already installed Metamask, you can skip this step. Otherwise, please install the appropriate version based on your device type.
Step 1: Set up the test network
Scroll zkEVM has currently launched its alpha testnet, which is a layer 2 network compatible with the Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM). This means that smart contracts written for Ethereum can be directly deployed on Scroll zkEVM. The Scroll L2 alpha testnet is currently connected to the Goerli test network of Ethereum L1.
To set up the Scroll L2 network, please visit the official website and follow the instructions to add the network to Metamask. At the same time, if you haven't added it yet, please also add the Goerli network to Metamask.
Step 2: Get Test ETH
After setting up the network, you need to get some Goerli test ETH from a faucet. There are several available faucet options:
You can choose one of them or use multiple faucets in combination.
Step 3: Bridge ETH to Scroll L2
After obtaining enough ETH, the next step is to bridge a portion of it to the Scroll L2 testnet. Visit the official bridging interface and follow the instructions on the page to transfer ETH to the address on the Scroll L2 testnet. Please note that this process may take some time to complete.
Step Four: Experience the On-Chain Tic-Tac-Toe Game
You can now try playing the on-chain Tic Tac Toe game on Scroll L2. Visit the game website, connect your wallet, and create a new game. Since this is a multiplayer game, you need to add a friend's address or use a second wallet as your opponent.
After creating the game, select your game from the list to start. This game also has an interesting feature: if you make a mistake at any step or don't want to lose the game, you can reset the game at any time.
Step 5 (Optional): Explore More Scroll L2 Dapps
If you want to test other Dapps and games on Scroll, you can check the official Dapps list provided, which contains more interesting applications waiting for you to explore.
By following the steps above, you have successfully gotten started with Scroll zkEVM and experienced Dapp interactions on the L2 network. I hope this guide helps you better understand and use Layer 2 technology.
