Bitcoin Mining Rig Heater: A New Choice for Office Heating Efficiency and Economic Analysis
Bitcoin Mining Rig Warm Air Blower: A New Choice for Office Heating
Overview
We recently introduced a new type of Bitcoin Mining Rig heater for office heating. In the long term, this type of equipment may play an important role in the Bitcoin mining industry. As the lifespan of dedicated integrated circuits (ASIC) increases and production costs decrease, combining mining with heating may become economically viable. Theoretically, if heating is already needed, this method can achieve 100% energy efficiency for mining, with operational energy costs approaching zero.
The current challenge is that ordinary heating machines have a lifespan of 10 to 15 years, while high-efficiency Bitcoin mining rigs update more rapidly. At the same time, the production cost of Bitcoin ASICs is high, and only continuous mining has investment value. However, it can be anticipated that the efficiency improvement of ASICs will slow down in the future, and the lifespan may extend to around 10 years. As related technologies mature, production costs will also decrease. At that time, integrating Bitcoin mining with heating equipment may become more meaningful, for example, in applications for swimming pools, commercial boilers, home boilers, and other scenarios.
The device we are using can mine with a maximum power of 400W. If more heat is needed, the heating power can be increased to 1,400W, with an additional 1,000W used solely for heating and not for mining.
First Impressions
This device essentially packages an old Bitcoin Mining Rig into a stylish round steel casing, with fan noise quieter than that of professional Mining Rigs. It is designed to be a consumer-friendly device, more akin to competing with certain high-end home appliance brands rather than targeting professional Bitcoin users.
The main drawback we found is that, although the device can be monitored remotely through the mobile application, it seems that remote control is not possible. Considering that the mining heater needs to be connected to the internet, the lack of remote control functionality is unfortunate. Some high-end brand products already have this feature. Perhaps this functionality can be added in the future through an application upgrade. Additionally, compared to some high-end air purifiers, the display design of this device is somewhat clunky. While the overall appearance is simple and beautiful, there is still room for improvement in interface design.
Another drawback is the inability to choose mining pools independently. Although this product is consumer-friendly and does not support complex operations, adding a self-selected mining pool feature in the settings would be very helpful. This can also be achieved with a software update.
Machine Operating Metrics
What we first noticed was the noise level. In an office environment of about 48.5 decibels, the recorded sound level after startup was 56.5 decibels. According to rough calculations, the noise generated by the device itself is about 55.8 decibels, higher than the claimed level of 40 decibels. This is slightly disappointing, but still much quieter than the typical ASIC Mining Rig (, which is around 80 decibels ).
The typical power consumption of the device in mining-only mode is about 440W, slightly higher than the 400W reported by the application. The application usually shows a hash rate of about 10 TH/s. However, since we cannot view the mining pool settings or reports, we cannot directly verify this data. We can only infer the hash rate from the actual Bitcoin rewards received.
According to the application report, the mining energy efficiency is about 40 J/Th, which is comparable to the efficiency of the top ASIC ( launched about 5 years ago at the beginning of 2020. Although purchasing old Mining Rigs is cheaper, modifying them into office heaters requires additional work to reduce noise and protect components. In contrast, this product looks similar to ordinary heating devices and is more suitable for use in traditional office environments.

Conclusion
Considering the commercial electricity cost, using it solely for mining is clearly not cost-effective. However, if used only when heating is needed, the electricity cost can be negligible, making mining feasible after deducting equipment costs. Compared to ordinary electric heaters, this device takes years to recover the price difference through mining profits. Compared to some high-end air purifiers, it still has gaps in appearance and functionality, but its ability to mine may provide certain economic advantages.
For tech startups in cold regions, this could be an interesting option. With technological advancements and decreasing costs, the concept of combining mining with heating may become more attractive. We will continue to monitor developments in this area.
