The U.S. exempts some sanctions against Russia to pave the way for the Alaska summit.
[Chain News] PANews, August 14th news, according to the Global Times citing the Kyiv Independent on the 14th, the U.S. Department of the Treasury announced a temporary exemption from certain sanctions against Russia, allowing transactions necessary for the preparation of the U.S.-Russia summit to be held in Alaska in order to advance the preparations for the summit. On August 13th local time, the Office of Foreign Assets Control of the U.S. Department of the Treasury issued a temporary license that day, temporarily allowing certain commercial activities under the "Russian Harmful Foreign Activities Sanctions Program" and the "Ukraine/Russia Related Sanctions Regulations," but not involving the unfreezing of any frozen Russian assets. The authorization is valid until August 20th, and the exemption is limited to commercial transactions necessary to support the preparation of this summit.
