Medical technology company Semler Scientific, which holds Bitcoin, announced on Thursday the hiring of Joe Burnett as its new Bitcoin Strategy Director, and revealed plans to acquire 105,000 Bitcoins over the next three years. Burnett previously served as Director of Market Research at Unchained and has also held positions as Chief Analyst and Product Manager at Blockware Solutions.

Is the market capitalization of SMLR close to the value of held Bitcoin, undervalued or a warning signal?
Semler Scientific, which joined the Bitcoin reserve ranks of Strategy ( originally named MicroStrategy) in May last year, is a medical technology company developing products for the detection of peripheral artery disease.
As of June 4, 2025, the company holds 4,449 Bitcoins, valued at approximately 420 million USD. According to data from Bitcoin Treasuries, Semler Scientific currently ranks 14th among publicly traded companies holding Bitcoin.
However, its stock price has dropped from a high of 151 USD in October last year to only 31.94 USD today, with a market capitalization of about 427 million USD, which is almost equivalent to the value of the 420 million USD in Bitcoin it holds!
Previously, the asset management company VanEck also warned that Semler Scientific (SMLR) currently has a market capitalization close to the value of its Bitcoin holdings. If this continues to deteriorate, it may lead to a severe dilution of shareholder value, impacting the company's operations. Like most Bitcoin reserve companies, Semler Scientific is operating at a loss in its core business, coupled with involvement in medical equipment-related litigation, which undermines investor confidence.
