Can Dogecoin Reach 1 USD in the Next 10 Years? Be Careful with High Expectations

While artificial intelligence (AI) is dominating the news headlines, another technological revolution is quietly but powerfully unfolding — the explosion of cryptocurrency and blockchain networks. Whether you love or are skeptical of this field, the crypto market is currently valued at 3.3 trillion USD, a figure that clearly shows the demand is very high. However, it cannot be denied that much of the interest in cryptocurrencies stems from speculative factors — and Dogecoin (DOGE) is a prime example. Initially starting as a joke, Dogecoin has risen to become the 9th largest cryptocurrency by market capitalization, with a total value of over 24 billion USD. Strong Price Increase but Highly Volatile In the past 10 years, the price of Dogecoin has increased by up to 82,140%. However, this coin is currently trading 78% lower than its peak in May 2021. This shows a distinct characteristic of Dogecoin: extremely strong and unpredictable price volatility. Like a casino, Dogecoin attracts investors with the excitement brought by price fluctuations. In particular, strong price surges like the one at the end of last year have drawn speculators in even more. However, the dependence on community sentiment, social media, or even Elon Musk's tweets — rather than fundamental financial factors — makes Dogecoin less reliable as a long-term investment. Unlimited Supply: Pressure on Price Another major issue with Dogecoin is the lack of a supply limit. As of June 26, 2025, there are 150 billion DOGE in circulation. Furthermore, due to the Proof-of-Work consensus mechanism, about 5 billion new DOGE are mined each year. As the supply continues to increase steadily, the value of each coin will struggle to rise unless demand also increases at a comparable or faster rate — a very difficult scenario to achieve. Could ETFs Be a Big "Boost"? Although Dogecoin currently has very few clear practical applications, a glimmer of hope has emerged: the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) is considering approving spot ETF funds for Dogecoin. If this happens, it would be a sign that Dogecoin is recognized as a legitimate financial instrument — something that few could have imagined a few years ago. The case of Bitcoin is a clear precedent. Since the SEC approved spot Bitcoin ETF funds on January 10, 2024, the price of Bitcoin has increased by 133%, and these ETFs now manage tens of billions of USD in assets. However, one should not expect Dogecoin to achieve similar success. Bitcoin has a much higher level of recognition, liquidity, and reliability compared to Dogecoin. If the Dogecoin ETF is approved, it may stimulate short-term speculative inflows, but it is very difficult to create a long-lasting sustainable uptrend. Can Dogecoin Reach 1 USD by 2035? Currently, the price of Dogecoin is around 0.16 USD. To reach the milestone of 1 USD in the next 10 years, this coin would need to increase by more than 525%, which corresponds to an average increase of 20% per year — an ambitious expectation. However, there are many reasons that make this possibility difficult to realize: Intense competition: Besides Dogecoin, the market has a plethora of emerging meme coins with a stronger ability to "create waves". Trust and stability: Bitcoin continues to solidify its position as "digital gold", with an increasingly robust professional financial ecosystem supporting it. Poor historical performance: In the last 3 years, Bitcoin has increased by 398%, while Dogecoin has only risen by 140%. Conclusion Dogecoin may still be an interesting part of the crypto market, but the expectation that it will reach the 1 USD mark by 2035 is overly optimistic. Those interested in Dogecoin should understand that speculative factors are heavily dominant, and this coin does not have the solid foundation like Bitcoin to maintain long-term price increases. Therefore, invest with caution, and do not let excitement mislead you about the true potential of Dogecoin.
