[Chatbot Causes Trouble, Elon Musk's xAI Company Apologizes] On the 12th local time, Elon Musk's artificial intelligence company xAI apologized for its chatbot Grok praising Hitler and other statements, explaining that the incident was caused by the misuse of a piece of deprecated code following a system update, and the related code has now been removed. xAI wrote on its official social media account: "We sincerely apologize for the horrific behavior of (Grok) that many experienced." According to The New York Times, on July 8, Grok generated a series of "anti-Semitic" remarks referencing content posted by users of the social media platform X, which Musk manages, including praising Nazi Germany leader Hitler; claiming that people with Jewish surnames are more likely to spread hate speech online; and stating that responding to white hate speech with remarks related to the large-scale extermination of Jews by the Nazis during World War II is "effective," among others.
